Dear Yonsei Community Members,
I am deeply grateful to all the students, faculty and staff members of Yonsei University participating in the untact/online classes started on March 16, 2020.
Per recommendation of specialists in infectious disease, we have found that it would be a highly risky decision to resume face-to-face classes in the present situation. In order to prevent the spread of infectious disease in social community as well as the collective infection of the university members, Yonsei University decided to extend the untact/online classes by April 10, 2020. Safety of all the academic community members is the first priority of Yonsei University. New class schedule and policy of the classes will be released after considering the recommendations of the infectious disease specialists and the progress of untact/online classes.
Owing to short notice for the untact/online classes, we had minor technical problems. However, I believe that we will make progresses on the new educational environments. In order to sustain quality of education, instructors are encouraged to facilitate communication with students while they are actively participating in the classes.
Yonsei University's historic traditions of learning and teaching have continued under national crises; Classes were continued by the students and faculty members under tents in temporary campus in Busan during the Korean War in 1950. Classes were continued by the students and faculty members in Yonsei campus when the school was closed during the democratization era in 1970-1980s. Classes will be successfully continued even in the middle of a national crisis of COVID-19 by the commitments of all the students and faculty members in 2020.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you in classroom in near future.
Seoung Hwan Suh, President of Yonsei University
