Kim, Dae Jung Library

Kim Dae Jung Library was established on February 25th 2003 with the donation of Mapo Donggyodong land and building, related materials from Asia-Pacific Peace-Foundation and opened in November 3 with Dae Jung Kim former president, Moo-hyun Roh, Chairman, president, and other 400 distinguished guests from home and abroad including 40 diplomatic guests. Kim Dae Jung Library is the first Asian Presidential library which aims to proclaim the agenda of peace, democratization, poverty reduction. It is an academic institute that shows the former president’s political vision and policies related to unification and other areas while the major fields are historical archive/exhibition, Research/International cooperation.

Mission

Historical Archive

The library holds historical material on President Kim Dae Jung and Korean modern history and opens projects to collect, analyze, publish and research such archives. There are the Collection of Oral History Collections and Digital Archive in the library.

Exhibition and Openings

President Kim’s articles and history is exhibited for the historical education of the people. On the first floor there is the Permanent Exhibition, 2nd floor, Historical Archive, and donated books from president Kim in the basement in a café type room.

Research Projects

Publication of Kim Dae Jung Library Research Series

Research project is an analysis of academic events or feed based on historical archive and domestic and foreign prominent scholars will participate to publish Kim Dae Jung Library Research Series.It will be published in Korean, English, and Japanese will be a main material for publicizing Korea around the world.

Activities of Kim Dae Jung Peace Research Institute

Kim Dae Jung Peace Research Institute sets its research agenda around various issues and challenges associated with the three keywords, Korea, the Korean Peninsula, East Asia. The Institute is a key institution of Kim Dae Jung Library and has three Centers, Peace Centers, Democracy Center, Poverty Reduction Center.

International Service Co-operation

The library will hold regular meetings for the international symposium to commemorate June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, Nobel Peace Prize winner summit meeting and the Global Lecture Series. The library will strengthen relationships with key institutions such as US National Archives Administration (NARA), the Kennedy Library, the Carter Center, Clinton Library. In 2006, April 19, the library has signed a memorandum of co-operation with Oslo, Norway Peace Centers and joint projects are underway.
