COVID-19 Notice

President's Message (March 20, 2020) 2020.03.20
Common Office of the President

March 20, 2020

Dear Yonsei Community Members,

I am deeply grateful to all the students, faculty and staff members of Yonsei University participating in the untact/online classes that started on March 16, 2020.

Per recommendation of specialists in infectious disease, we have found that it would be a highly risky decision to resume face-to-face classes in the present situation. In order to prevent the spread of infectious disease in the social community as well as the collective infection of university members, Yonsei University decided to extend untact/online classes to April 10, 2020. The safety of all community members is the first priority of Yonsei University. The new class schedule and policy of the classes will be released after considering the recommendations of the infectious disease specialists and the progress of untact/online classes.

We had faced minor technical difficulties due to the short notice for untact/online classes, but I believe that we will make progress on the new educational environments. In order to sustain the quality of education, instructors are encouraged to facilitate communication with students while they are actively participating in classes.

Yonsei University's historic traditions of learning and teaching have continued under national crisis. During the Korean War in 1950, classes were continued by students and faculty members under tents in a temporary campus in Busan. Classes were continued on the Yonsei campus when the school was closed during the democratization era in the 1970-1980s. And classes will successfully continue even in the middle of the national crisis of COVID-19 with the commitment of the entire Yonsei community in 2020.

I am looking forward to meeting all you in the classroom in the near future.

Seoung Hwan Suh

President

Yonsei University
