Connecting stellar researchers both at Yonsei and abroad and presenting a new globalization model for research
The Yonsei Frontier Lab serves as an open network hub that fosters collaborative research between Yonsei University’s scholars and outstanding researchers worldwide and introduces a new globalization model for research and education. Furthermore, it plays a pivotal role in enhancing research performance and external visibility by promoting international research collaborations.
Key achievements and initiatives of the Yonsei Frontier Lab are as follows:
- The Yonsei Frontier Lab has established partnerships with 6,395 overseas research institutions, resulting in a significant output of 14,619 international co-authored studies.
- The program for inviting outstanding international faculty members aimed to enhance the university’s research capabilities by inviting top-tier international scholars and seizing international joint research opportunities. This initiative provides financial support through living expenses and research grants to both the inviting and invited faculty members. So far, 40 researchers or research teams have been supported, leading to the publication of 109 co-authored studies.
- The initiative for supporting emerging international researchers focuses on recruiting exceptional international postdoctoral researchers to strengthen the university’s academic and research competitiveness. The program provides personnel expenses to the recruited postdoctoral researchers. Currently, 16 researchers have conducted research as part of Yonsei University’s academic community.
- The international collaborative research project aims to cultivate strategic partnerships with prominent research institutions abroad to establish joint research funds and promote international collaborative research projects. Notable strategic partners include the University of Geneva in Switzerland, the University of Sydney in Australia, and Emory University in the United States. So far, international joint research has been conducted with 47 teams worldwide through this initiative.
- The large-scale international conference project provides support for large-scale international academic conferences hosted and organized by Yonsei University to facilitate international research collaboration and enhance the global recognition of the university. Six major academic events have been supported thus far, including ASIALEX 2023 (https://korealex.org/) and icosahom (https://icosahom2023.org/).
