dedicated to conducting innovative research and education in Nano science

The Yonsei University Advanced Science Institute (ASI), founded in 2015, is dedicated to conducting world-class research in basic sciences. Its mission revolves around securing creative knowledge and foundational technology to pioneer innovative academic fields while simultaneously ensuring global research competitiveness.

The ASI is driven by two primary objectives, namely advancing basic science education and fostering groundbreaking scientific research. It has two main components—the Nano Biomedical Engineering (NanoBME) graduate program and the Center for NanoMedicine (CNM) under the Institute for Basic Science (IBS), which was established under a special Presidential law. The ASI seamlessly combines the roles of a world-class research institute in basic science and a graduate education institution. It produces synergies through efficient coordination between the CNM and the NanoBME programs.

Since its inception, the ASI has made significant strides by forming a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) comprising Nobel laureates and eminent scholars, including the Director of the Max Planck Institute. The institute actively organizes various events, such as international symposiums featuring invited global researchers. In 2023, the Yonsei-IBS Joint Research Hub (JRH) was established to propel the growth of the ASI and the CNM into a hub for international research collaboration. With the JRH as the foundation, they plan to build an international research collaboration platform in nanomedicine through collaborative endeavors with leading global universities and research institutions as well as the exchange of research infrastructure and personnel and the cultivation of emerging researchers.

The CNM is dedicated to conducting innovative research through Team Science and has yielded remarkable global research achievements. Its research outcomes have been published in prestigious international journals, including Nature Materials, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Biomedical Engineering, CELL, JACS, Nano Letters, Advanced Materials, Science Advances, and ACS Nano.
