Selected as the Main Campus of the “Global Bio Campus” Organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare

Establishment of educational facilities in International Campus, scheduled to open at the end of 2024 officially

Formed 'Incheon City-Yonsei Consortium' and fostered bio-human resources from middle- and low-income countries

Yonsei University, along with Incheon Metropolitan City, applied for the "Global Bio Campus Construction Project" organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and was finally selected as the Main Campus of the Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on July 7 that it had confirmed five regions, including ▲Incheon Metropolitan City (Songdo), ▲Gyeonggi-do (Siheung), ▲Chungcheongbuk-do (Osong), ▲Jeollanam-do (Hwasun), and ▲Gyeongsangbuk-do (Andong).

The "Global Bio Campus" is an educational facility that conducts education and training for global bio-production workers from middle- and low-income countries on the occasion of the World Health Organization(WHO)'s designation of Korea as a global bio workforce training hub in 2022.

As a result of the contest, five regions were selected, including Songdo, Siheung, Osong, Hwasun, and Andong, which were considered suitable for conducting such education and training regarding educational facilities, location, and educational capabilities.

The Global Bio Songdo Campus will have facilities such as a 3,300㎡ lecture room, experimental practice room, and office space in the idle area of Yonsei University's International Campus. The Global Bio Campus Support Foundation, which oversees and operates the global bio-campus and curriculum scheduled to be established by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, will also move in and function as the Main Campus. It plans to start building facilities in the first half of 2024, pilot bio-production process programs in the second half of 2024, and officially open a global bio-campus at the end of 2024.

Yonsei University, which is creating a "Yonsei Science Park (YSP)" on the International Campus, is expected to create synergy with the "Global Bio Campus Construction Project" as it has already established a practical education center on the International Campus and fosters domestic and foreign bio-specialized workers through the "K-NIBRT Program Operation Project" and "Asia Vaccine Production Education."
