학생들에게 전하는 메시지
새 학기를 맞아 아름다운 꽃과 따뜻한 봄의 기운이 캠퍼스를 가득 채우고 있습니다. 그러나 활기차게 시작해야 할 캠퍼스 생활이 코로나 사태로 인해 지연되고 있어 답답함을 느낍니다. 코로나 사태로 인해 총장 취임식, 졸업식, 입학식 등 주요 행사가 취소되었고, 5월 9일(토)에 개최 예정이었던 창립기념식은 온라인 녹화 중계로 진행될 예정입니다.
특히, 대학 생활에 대한 기대로 부푼 마음에 젖어 있는 신입생들이 처음부터 온라인으로 교수님들을 만나게 되고, 교육과 생활이 하나 되는 우리 대학만의 자랑거리 RC 교육을 원천적으로 차단당해 친구들과의 교우 활동 및 다양한 경험을 만끽하지 못하는 것에 안타까움을 금할 수 없습니다.
그러나 지금은 무엇보다도 구성원의 안전이 가장 중요한 상황이기 때문에 당분간 학교의 공식 활동은 비대면온라인을 활용한 예정입니다. 사이버 공간에서라도 모든 연세인이 적극적으로 소통하며 슬기롭게 이 난관을 헤쳐나가야 하겠습니다.
학교는 모든 의사 결정에서 학생의 안전을 최우선으로 고려하고 있습니다. 역병 감염을 방지하면서도 수업이 원활하게 이루어질 수 있도록 온라인 강의를 최대한 활용하고, 실험 및 실습 교육도 비대면으로 진행할 수 있는 방안을 모색하고 있습니다. 이를 위해 서버 증설, 유무선 통신망 확충, 방화벽 보강, PC 임대, 디지털 조교 활용 등 다각적 노력을 경주하고 있습니다.
학교는 코로나 사태에 따라 사상 초유로 시행하게 된 대규모 비대면온라인 강의의 시행착오를 줄이고 학사 행정의 빈틈을 없애기 위해 학교와 학생 대표가 논의하는 교학위원회를 구성하고 온라인 도우미 등 다양한 소통 창구를 활성화하여 학생들의 의견을 수렴하고 있습니다.
1학기 중에 불가피하게 취소된 행사들은 코로나 사태가 종식된 이후 다시 개최할 계획입니다. 부디 코로나 사태가 진정될 때까지는 사회적 거리를 유지하면서 다중 시설 이용을 자제하고 건강에 유의할 것을 당부 드립니다.

Message to students
As the new semester begins, beautiful flowers and a warm spring breeze are filling our campus. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, all the usual activities that liven up our campus have been postponed. Our major ceremonies and events, such as the inauguration, graduation, and entrance ceremonies were canceled. We are also currently discussing alternative plans for the commemoration ceremony scheduled in May.
I feel truly sorry for our freshmen students who must have had such great hopes for your new college life. Your first encounter with our University has been minimized, meeting professors only through online courses and missing the best opportunity to make new friends or experience new things through our University’s renowned RC education. I cannot find the right words to comfort you for your disappointment.
For the time being, however, we believe that the safety of all members of Yonsei University is the most important thing to protect. Thus, the official activities of the school will be conducted only through non-facing, online channels. All members of Yonsei should try our best to actively communicate in cyberspace and wisely overcome this challenge.
Yonsei University is putting the safety of Yonsei community members as our utmost priority in making all our decisions. We are searching for ways to make the most of our online lectures and to conduct experiments and hands-on training in a non-face-to-face manner so that classes can be smoothly conducted while preventing infectious spread of the virus. To this end, we are making various efforts, such as expanding servers, expanding wired and wireless communication networks, reinforcing firewalls, renting PCs, and hiring digital assistants.
To reduce the trial-and-error of large-scale, non-face-to-face and online lectures that have been conducted for the first time in history due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and to minimize the inefficiency of the administration, we have established a school board with student representatives in order actively to collect students' opinions through various communication channels such as an ‘online helper’ system.
Those Events that were inevitably canceled during the first semester will be resumed after the COVID-19 situation is settled. We urge you to keep social distance and refrain from using public facilities to stay healthy until this situation calms down.
