A research team headed by Professor Lee Han-woong of the College of Life Science and Biotechnology and Professor Kang Seok-min from the College of Medicine have discovered that malfunctions in the gene NCOA6 may cause the progressive heart disease dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in humans.  Through their experiments on NCOA6 dysfunction in mice, the team has opened the door to developing new diagnostic technologies and drugs to treat DCM.

On August 21, the results were published in Cell Reports, a sister journal of Cell, under the title “Perturbation of NCOA6 leads to dilated cardiomyopathy.” The research project received funding and support from the National Research Foundation, the Bio-Industry Technology Development Program, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety
