An international research team led by Yonsei Professors Park Cheol-min (Materials Science and Engineering) and Lee Hyung-suk (Mechanical Engineering) and Professor Jean-Charles Ribierre of Ewha Womans University has successfully developed high-performance, non-volatile memory devices that can operate under various mechanical deformations such as bending and folding. The article “Non-volatile organic memory with sub-millimetre bending radius,” which details the results of their research, was published April 8 in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.
For the project, Professors Park and Lee supervised a number of Yonsei researchers, including Kim Hae-jin and Richard Hahn-kee Kim, while collaborating with their counterparts from Japan and France. The project, which received funding from the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the Korean Research Foundation, is expected to contribute significantly to the development of the next generation of “wearable” computers, display devices, and communication and storage technologies. It should also pave the way for future research into organic memory and mechanical flexibility.
