From January 10 to February 10, ten College of Music voice students participated in a one-month music training program at the Staatsoper (State Opera) in Hannover, Germany. Created in January 2009, this year’s program was planned and facilitated by Yonsei alumnus Park Sung-keun (class of 1992), who is a featured tenor at the Hannover Staatsoper.
In addition to voice lessons and lectures, the Yonsei students spent time in Hannover’s opera house and had field trips to notable sites in the city; to welcome the group, a reception was hosted by Hannover City Hall, where a Republic of Korea flag was displayed. They also toured Berlin and Bremen, attending several opera performances in the latter city.
During the training, each student received intensive voice coaching, while taking lessons in German pronunciation, performance techniques, and staging. At the conclusion of the program, the students performed an Abschluss Konzert (final concert), demonstrating all that they had learned and practiced over the course of the month.
