- RC Forum, Short Film Festival, Concerts, and Exhibitions Held
- Over 500 Parents Take Part in Parents Day

The Yonsei International Campus (YIC) played host to the popular and successful RC Open Days November 25-30.  The culmination of a variety of activities and events held at the Residential College (RC) during the fall semester, the RC Open Days provided YIC students with multiple platforms for showcasing their talents, while also raising money for charity and giving parents the opportunity to witness student life at the YIC. After rehearsing for much of the semester, students from the Muak House put on the “Muak Concert,” which included ocarina, classical guitar, orchestral, and choral performances.  One of the student performers from Muak House said of the concert:  “It was an overwhelming and emotional event.  After a semester of hard work, it was gratifying to be part of such a harmonious event.”  Baekyang House, on the other hand, held a film festival in which student-filmmakers screened their own movies.  Eight films were shown, including one by a participant from the spring 2013 film program.  Enriching the film festival were performances by a student K-pop group, an a cappella team, and a singer-songwriter duo. The RC also organized a charity bazaar where students donated such articles as clothes, bags, and accessories and sold them for 1000 won each.  YIC Residential Master (RM) professors contributed to the event by making kimchi and scallion pumpkin pancakes, which they also sold for 1000 won apiece.  Popcorn and cotton candy were prepared by Residential Assistant (RA) students, with the buyers determining the price for themselves.  In all, 255,000 won were raised, and the proceeds were handed over to YIC Pastor Kim Dong-hwan.  Next year, the proceeds from the bazaar will be used to provide food coupons for deserving students.  According to one student participant:  “The bazaar was very rewarding, and I am very happy to have participated in it.” In addition to these activities, the RC Forum was held to discuss the continuing development of the YIC and Yonsei; there was also a themed Movie Night for all the houses and the twenty-fourth installment of the YIC Performing Arts Series.

- Third Parents Day Held

The culmination of RC Open Days was Parents Day, which took place on Saturday, November 30.  During the day, parents were given the opportunity to observe student life at the RC, including the various student activities that their children took part in over the course of the semester.  In all, 580 parents attended the event, which was personally hosted by Yonsei President Jeong Kap-young and fifteen representatives from the Office of Academic Affairs.  On this day, parents were treated to the RC Olympic Finals, which consisted of intramural competitions in soccer, basketball, badminton, table tennis, and dodge ball.  Overall, Allen House took the top prize, while Abbison House and Underwood House were close runners-up.  Several exhibitions were held for parents, including art work from Holistic Education I and II and photographs from Ecuador commemorating fifty years of diplomatic ties between the Republic of Korea and the South American nation.  A social dance festival was held, and there were musical performances provided by the Holistic Education II Orchestra and the Eagles Choir, which was composed of alumni who entered Yonsei in 1984. Parents expressed a great deal of interest in the freshman RC curriculum, which was introduced by University College Dean Choi Kang-sik, as well as the report on the current state of Yonsei University provided by Lee Doo-won, Vice President for External Affairs and Development.  During the banquet that followed these activities, parents had the opportunity to meet with the RMs and Academic Advisors to discuss majors, careers after graduation, and student life at the RC.  At the conclusion of Parents Day, a number of parents conveyed their satisfaction with the RC curriculum and lifestyle, offering the following appraisals: “I am happy and proud to be participating today as both a Yonsei alumnus and parent”; “I am satisfied with the care and attention that the RMs and Academic Advisors are providing my child”; and “The RC develops students’ talents through its holistic education, teaching students invaluable social skills, while building character for their lives after graduation.”
