On November 1, Gangnam Severance Hospital began its six-month long “Russia-ROK Health Care Cooperation Training Project,” welcoming six Russian doctors from the Republic of Buryatia. The Russian participants include two thoracic surgeons, two cardiologists, one neurosurgeon, and one anesthesiologist.    Professor Hong Soon-chang of Gangnam Severance Hospital’s Department of Thoracic Surgery is leading the training program, and he is joined by five colleagues from the hospital:  Professor Yi Gi-jong (Thoracic Surgery), Professor Yoon Young-won (Cardiology), Professor Choi Eui-young (Cardiology), Professor Chung Joon-ho (Neurosurgery), and Professor Shim Yon-hee (Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine). These Korean professors, along with several other physicians from Gangnam Severance, will act as mentors to the Russian doctors during the training program. Gangnam Severance Hospital is well-known in Korea for its hybrid operating room, which allows doctors to perform a variety of high-tech medical operations.  The hospital also possesses advanced coronary surgery technology for procedures such as minimally invasive surgery and coronary artery graft surgery.   While at Gangnam Severance, the doctors from the Republic of Buryatia will acquire advanced training in diagnostics, anesthesiology, and pain management, while learning cutting-edge techniques for heart, brain, and main arterial surgeries.
