Yonsei Establishes Joint-Research Center at University of Geneva

- MOU Signed for Future Participation of Geneva Students in Three-Campus Comparative East Asian Studies Program

On October 15, the Yonsei Geneva Center officially opened its doors at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, making Yonsei the first Korean university to have such a center on the campus.  The center is the result of a strategic agreement signed last July by Yonsei and the University of Geneva, one which called for the establishment of joint-research centers on each university’s campus, as well as collaborative research projects and student and faculty exchanges.     Yonsei and the University of Geneva have also signed an MOU paving the way for students from the Swiss university to participate in the Three-Campus Comparative East Asian Studies Program.  Administered by Yonsei, the Three-Campus Program is co-hosted by Yonsei, Keio University (where Yonsei also has a joint-research center), and the University of Hong Kong; in the program, participants study at all three universities over the course of one year, with the fall semester held at Keio, the spring semester at Yonsei, and the summer term at Hong Kong.  Beginning with the 2014-2015 academic year, students from Cornell University, Princeton University, and King’s College London will also be able to take part in this innovative program, joining students from the host institutions to form a cohort for the year.  Following the opening of the Yonsei Geneva Center and the signing of the MOU, President Jeong Kap-young said:  “These exciting developments, which are reflective of the goals of our ‘Third Founding,’ testify to Yonsei’s determination to become a truly international university.”
