Yonsei University’s 2013 Summer Graduation Ceremony was held Friday, August 30 on the Sinchon Campus.  A total of 2,961 degrees were conferred, including 1,230 bachelors, 1,404 masters, and 315 doctoral degrees.
In his commencement address, President Jeong Kap-young told the graduates: “The true purpose of a university education is ‘greater learning,’ and the essence of ‘greater learning’ lies in the process of becoming an empathetic and intellectually inquisitive adult whose contributions will benefit society. . . . It is my sincere hope that all the new graduates were able to fulfill their desire for greater learning at Yonsei.”
President Jeong also asked the graduates to remember three fundamental responsibilities as Yonsei graduates: first, to carry the Yonsei spirit in their hearts and to embody that spirit in their actions; second, to be leaders in establishing new paradigms for social development; and third, to practice tolerance and serve others as they strive to create a fairer and more just society.
