Ceremony for ‘Yon-In’ Project Launch Held at Mansoo Elementary School Yonsei University officially started its talent donation project in Incheon, where its international campus is located. On March 25th, a ceremony was held to commemorate the launch of the Yon-In project with Yonsei University, Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education at Yonsei’s Songdo International Campus. The Yon-In project involves participation of outstanding Yonsei students in academic guidance and mentoring programs. It shares the same goals and ambitions as the RC (Residential College) program for freshmen implemented from this 2013 spring semester. The main aim of the project is to foster intellectually, morally and spiritually mature students who have a sense of social responsibility and service leadership. The first Yon-In project will take place at Mansoo Elementary School in Incheon. At the ceremony, Yonsei University students took an oath to “do their best to contribute to the development of the local community in all earnestness.” More than 100 Yonsei and Mansoo students attended the ceremony pledging themselves as mentors and mentees. Yonsei University President Jeong Kap-young gave a welcome speech followed by a congratulatory speech by Incheon mayor Song Young-gil. Yonsei University established a volunteer activity course which would allow the 617 students participating in the Yon-In project to achieve 1 credit this semester. The students will visit one of the 43 elementary, middle and high schools registered in the Yon-In project once a week to conduct mentoring and foreign language programs. They will act as mentors for the young students who they will take care of as their mentees. The Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education selected 2,025 students from the 19 elementary, 11 middle and 13 high schools in the region to take part in the Yon-In project. The schools will provide the necessary learning space and facilities for the project. Last November, Yonsei University signed an agreement for the Yon-In project with Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education. Incheon Metropolitan City will provide administrative support as well as the 200 million won fund needed to operate the project
