“Baekyang Club,” an organization of contributors backing the Baekyang-ro renovation project, was inaugurated. Baekyang Club consists of members who donated over 100 million won to the project. There are around 30 members as of today and the club continues to grow aiming for 100 members. On January 9th, Baekyang Club promoters Cho Si-young (Daechang, CEO), Jang Doo-heung (Harim Machinery, Director), Lee Duk-soo (Times Core, Chairman), Yoon Jang-hyuk (Hail Electronics, CEO) and Koo Yeon-chan (Cals Corporation, CEO) visited Yonsei. The 5 promoters are all alumni with deep ties with President Jeong Kap-young. Baekyang Club members do not stop at just making contributions, but they also encourage others around them to partake in this culture of donation. Baekyang Club is led by Chairman Cho Si-young. When he was asked to take on this position by President Jeong, he showed no hesitation at all. Cho said that, “I hope that the Baekyang-ro renovation project will be successful. And that with the completion of the project, Yonsei University will develop further as the best university in the world.” Lee Duk-soo, in charge of general affairs of Baekyang Club, also said, “We wish to set an example so that my children and other young people who attend Yonsei can take pride in being Yonseian and live diligently. Hopefully, they will grow up to give back to their school and society.” Jang Doo-heung, who has looked over the blueprints and offered advice on lighting and other facilities, has expectations that “Baekyang-ro project will be a memorable one in Yonsei history.” Yoon Jang-hyuk added that, “The renovated Baekyang-ro will become the symbol and pride of Yonsei. The alumni donations will enable the completion of another landmark and it will be testimony to the donation culture at Yonsei.” Koo Yeon-chan also expressed his affection for the school, saying, “Yonsei was my foundation and my footing without which I could not have started my business and could not accomplished all that I have today. As a member of our society, I felt that it was important to create a culture of sharing with our neighbors. This belief has driven me to make donations and actively pursue an exemplary corporate culture as well. Making a donation is the most meaningful and happiest thing you can do, so I urge everyone to contribute to ensure the success of the Baekyang-ro renovation project.”
