Severance Hospital ranked No.1 for the 6th consecutive year in the general hospital sector in the Korea Well-Being Consumer Index (KS-WCI) published by Korean Standard Association. Korean Standard Association published the index on August 22. It surveyed 101,000 consumers over 2 months starting in May covering 146 sectors for products (including 44 service sectors) and 505 brands. The overall 2012 KS-WCI score this year rose 0.3 to 65.49 from last year: 65.79 and 64.87 for products and services, respectively. Severance Hospital achieved an overall 72.32 with exceptionally higher scores in criteria related to safety and social responsibility. Korean Standard Association explained that, “Severance Hospital actively supports patients in vulnerable social groups through its Share 10% Campaign providing not only funding but also donation of talent and time to offer better treatment. In addition, it is also earnestly engaged in fostering medical teams in developing countries through its competent medical staff abroad all the while ensuring health care for missionaries as well.” The KS-WCI, first introduced in 2004, was jointly developed by Yonsei University and Korea Standard Association. The annual index is based on five criteria – health, environment, safety, satisfaction and social responsibility – each worth 20 scores with a total score of 100.
