[YONSEI NEWS] Yonsei’s School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering Hosts IEEE International Symposium

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) International Symposium on BMSB (Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting) organized by IEEE Broadcast Technology Society and hosted by Yonsei University’s School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering was held from June 27th to 29th at Yonsei Engineering Research Park. Professor Seo Jong-soo was General Chair, and Professor Sohn Kwang-hoon and Professor Lee Sang-hoon were Local Arrangement Chairs of the conference committee. IEEE BMSB 2012 was a forum for the presentation and exchange of technical advances in the rapidly converging areas of multimedia broadcasting, telecommunication, consumer electronics, and networking technologies. At the symposium, experts from some 30 countries shared their research results and studies. The latest technology and services developed by Korean research institutes, businesses and broadcasting companies, such as Smart TV, N-screen, 3D HDTV, Ultra HDTV, Mobile TV, were also showcased. Yonsei’s next generation DTV (Digital TV) Broadcasting Technologies Research Center also demonstrated results of its recent research and development. Keynote speakers included reputable names in the field of development in next generation digital broadcasting technology and standards from North America, Europe, Japan and China. They included Chairman of US firm ATSC, Head Researcher of German research organization Fraunhofer, Chairman of MPEG, Head of Japan’s NHK technology institute, and Vice-president of China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Local and foreign experts also attended a panel discussion on “Challenges and opportunities for digital broadcasting in an era of smart integration era.”
