[YONSEI NEWS] Yonsei University Technology Holding Company, “Asia’s No.1 in 2020”

Yonsei University Technology Holding Company, spearheading the move towards industrialization of technologies developed by universities and industry-university cooperation, celebrates its first year of establishment. The Company was established in June 2011 after a 3-year preparation period to promote the school’s excellent research results to a commercial level. So far, 7 affiliate companies have been set up founded on the technology developed at Yonsei: Berrynerry (manufacturer of berry drinks and health-food products), TechLER (English education content developer), Acts Vision (manufacturer of disposable endoscopes), Raphas (seller of materials made of natural substances and patches with microneedle), Metahealth (medical information provider), Inogard (developer of electronic bidding system) and H∞H Healthcare (total health care company). On June 25th, Yonsei University President Jeong Kap-young, Yonsei University Technology Holding Company Chairman Park Tae-sun and academic board members as well as CEOs of affiliate companies, inventors, venture investment companies and others related to the school’s industry-university cooperation project attended the Company’s 1st year anniversary ceremony held at Allen Hall. The event was held to share the achievements of Yonsei University Technology Holding Company and seek the direction of its future development with some 100 VIP guests from various fields and organizations, including government agencies such as, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, National Research Foundation of Korea, Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, and major companies, such as KT, as well as heads of industry-university cooperation institutions of other universities and investors. The event reflected the interest and expectations of those involved in the school’s technology holding company. Park Tae-sun, chairman of Yonsei Technology Holding Company, said in a welcome speech, “Entering into an era of knowledge-based integrated technology, various systems have been implemented to encourage industrialization of technology using research results found at universities. In pace with this trend, Yonsei University Technology Holding Company will lead the industrialization process of technology developed at Yonsei, befitting the school’s vision of constantly pioneering a new era, and grow to become a company that contributes to national industrial development.” Park Kyung-min, vice-president of the Company, added that, “The aim is to become the best company in Asia in commercializing idea and technology by 2020. In addition, the Company plans to expand investments to 40 affiliates and achieve 1 trillion won in sales by then.” Choi Eun-ok, an official at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in a commemorative speech also explained the government policy concerning the revitalization of industry-university cooperation projects. Raphas and H∞H Healthcare, awarded for ‘Best Practice’ among the affiliates, gave company presentations amid great interest from the audience.
