Yonsei University showed outstanding performance in the annual league table of the world’s top universities. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), publisher of the most trusted annual league table of the top 600 universities in the world based in the UK, released the ‘QS World University Rankings® by Subject’ on June 28th. On the list, Yonsei ranked 12th in Modern Languages, the highest ranking by any Korean university surpassing Seoul National University and KAIST. Yonsei ranked 27th in both Communication & Media Studies and Sociology. QS provides rankings of universities that performed the best in 29 different subjects based on ① the evaluation of respective scholars (academic), ② the level of influence of papers published by the institution (citations) and ③ the evaluation of graduates by companies (employer). The weight of criteria (Academic/Employer/Citations) is as follows: Modern Languages 70%/30%/0%, Communication & Media Studies 50%/ 40%/ 10%, Sociology 80%/10%/10%. The number of responses to the survey was as follows: Modern Languages, Academic 522/ Employer 518; Communication & Media Studies 767/1,641; Sociology 714/174. Hence, Yonsei’s overall score for the 3 subjects were: Modern Languages 86.7, Communication & Media Studies 80.1 and Sociology 74.2.
