Since its establishment in 1985, Yonsei International Summer School has run 6-week summer programs to students around the world. This year 1,290 foreign students from 27 countries as well as 87 Yonsei students are enrolled in the program at Sinchon Campus. Not only has the number of students increased, the School is also the country’s largest international summer program. The students’ nationality has remarkably become diverse, including students from Oman, Lithuania, and Switzerland. Under the cooperation with the University of California System, some 200 UC students took part in the Yonsei International Summer School. As an effect of the Korean Wave, the number of students from Singapore enlarged to around 110 this year. Composed of 9 divisions, the International Summer School offers around 100 English-medium courses, and half of the faculty are graduates of world-famous universities. The program also operates various activities, including field trips to Yeosu Expo, Suncheon Eco Bay Area, and Jeonju Hanok Village. In addition to these activities regarding Korean technology, nature, and culture, weekend programs include hands-on experiences and performances that are intended to provide stress release and to help the students extend their understanding of Korea. Students also learn the Korean language from KLI.
