A domestic research team has developed a super-resolution optical image device which discerns the fine particles of one-hundred-thousandth hair. On April 10th, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced the successful development of a new optical image method of Nanoscale Localization Sampling (NLS). The team’s study findings have been published as the cover article in Small, a research journal in the science and technology field of micro- and nanoscales. The existing and currently used total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy is able to discern the size of only a few hundred nanometers with the light’s diffraction phenomenon. With the NLS method, the research team has developed a way to restore the biomolecule’s image information by creating a small and strong electromagnetic wave on the surface of a metallic nanostructured chip. This NLS-based equipment enables the interaction between cell and protein to be observed even with only the general microscope with a newly constructed metallic nanostructured chip.
