Habitat club "Se-um" that builds houses for marginalized groups of society won the 23rd Asan Award given by the Asan Foundation. The award-giving ceremony was held on November 25th at the auditorium of the Asan Institute for Life Sciences. Habitat club "Se-um" has been building houses for less well-off people for the past five years since June 2006 in areas such as Taebaek and Cheonan under the vision ‘Building Homes, Changing Lives.’ In addition, it is one of the most prominent volunteer societies in Yonsei University that has been involved in mentorship activities at Danyang Middle School for the past three years. In association with the Christianity-based global NGO Habitat which has been building houses since its founding in 1976, "Se-um" helps those suffering from poor living environments and excessive living costs by creating homes and giving hope. "Se-um" does far more than simply participating in Habitat activities. It autonomously organizes, finances, and executes programs to solve living problems. In addition, its members have become experts through persistent participation in volunteer services and training. Its projects show high levels of satisfaction and it works towards providing professional volunteer services that can truly contribute to local communities. More than ten times every year, it has been part of a wide range of activities including construction work, fundraising, mentorship, and call-center volunteer services. Law student Choi Jin-young, head of "Se-um," said that "We are grateful that our efforts to help our neighbors are being recognized and we will use the ten million won we received as a reward to help those in need in Seodaemun-gu."
