The 5th Annual UVE Charity Concert The 5th Annual Underwood Vision Ensemble (UVE) Charity Concert was held in Luce Chapel on December 2, 2011. On this night, 27 musically talented Underwood International College (UIC) students performed 13 pieces of classical and mixed genre of music under the theme of Appassionato, a Spanish word for ‘passion.’ The main theme song of this vibrant evening was “The Carmen Series,” which was rearranged by Youngmin Kim, an economics major sophomore at UIC. Organized by UIC’s philanthropic UVE President Youhee Choi (International Studies, ‘10) and UIC Professor Helen Lee, the concert has been an annual fundraising event since 2006. A sanctuary for abandoned and handicapped children around Seoul Station, Gabriel House has been the recipient of the money raised from UVE charity concerts. This year with more than 100 attendants, UVE has been able to donate 500,000 KRW. Audience included enthusiastic parents and Yonsei professors as well as UIC and Yonsei students. As a special guest, Jisoo Park (Computer Science, ‘05) gave a joint performance on “Por Una Cabeza ” and “The Carmen Series.” Special performance for “We Are the Reason” was given by Yayan, the Yonsei a cappella group. Popular performances for the evening included pieces like “Por Una Cabeza,” the theme song of Scent of a Woman and also the melody of Yonsei’s cheer song “I love Yonsei." All in all, the unique highlight of the evening was the exceptional performance given by UIC professors known as The Uncommon Curriculum Band: Professor Helen Lee, Professor Paul Chang, Professor Chad Denton, Professor Jesse Sloane, Professor Anthony Adler, and Professor Jenn Hui Bon Hoa. With academic finesse, they performed two classic pop songs “Morning Dew" and “Let It Be.” The most unexpected yet delightful performance was given by two students that joined the professors from the audience for the “Let It Be” piece.
