In celebration of Global Day, the "Australia Day" event was held in the Global Lounge on November 16th. The Office of International Affairs and Yonsei Global co-hosted this event and the Australian Embassy in South Korea participated to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Korea-Australia diplomatic relations. In addition, many students studying at Yonsei University volunteered to help out during the event. The Australian Embassy in South Korea dispatched Dean W. Woodgate, Counsellor (Education), to attend the event. Woodgate had talks with Kim Dong-hoon, Vice President for International Affairs. During the opening ceremony, he thanked Yonsei Global Students for preparing the event as well as others for being part of the event. The event provided a wide variety of information about Australia, let alone a chance to experience the country’s culture. The Head of the Department of Education at the Australian Embassy introduced the "Endeavour Awards," which is the Australian Government’s scholarship program. An introduction on Australia’s university systems was also made. Starting from one in the afternoon, an introduction about working holidays in Western Australia was given by "Tourism Western Australia." This attracted the attention of many students by highlighting the point that the working holidays in Western Australia has various advantages compared to more well-known places in Eastern Australia such as Sydney. About 500 people enjoyed the event this day. Among the students who took part in activities such as decorating paper boomerangs, wine tasting, and eating Tim Tams, those who won the raffle were awarded bags and tumblers prepared by Yonsei Global.
