The Young Scientist Award is rewarded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the National Research Foundation of Korea to young scientists in the fields of natural science and engineering who have not only rendered outstanding research and other accomplishments but also have demonstrated their future potential. This year, the Young Scientist Award in Polymer Science was awarded to Professor Jung Un-ryong. The winners in the fields of Electricity, Advanced Materials and Architecture were Professor Gwon Seong-hun (Seoul National University), Professor An Jong-hyeon (Sungkyunkwan University) and Professor Kim Su-min (Korea University), respectively. Professor Jung has developed new forms and types of hybrid nanomaterials via convergences of various nanomaterials. Since research on hybrid materials require extensive knowledge on both organic and inorganic material, not many scientists worldwide can actually conduct studies on them. While his Ph.D. studies were in Polymer Physics and his postdoctoral fellowship in the synthesis and application of inorganic nanomaterials, Professor Jung has acquired prominent achievements in both areas.
