June 13th was ‘Yonsei Hawking’ Shin Hyung-jun’s first day to work to the Yonsei Software Application Institute. On June 10th, a welcoming event for Mr. Shin was held with Yonsei President Kim Han-joong, professors, institute faculty, and his family and friends, including seniors and juniors of the Computer Science Department. Mr. Shin who graduated this year from the Department of Computer Science at Yonsei, is working as a researcher at the Software Application Institute. This Institute, established in 1994, conducts studies on software development and information communication technology. Collaborative projects are carried out with diverse departments in the College of Engineering, from support by corporations and government agencies. Mr. Shin intends to expand his interests in smart phone softwares under continuing guidance from his undergraduate faculty advisor, Professor Lee Kyung-ho. While Mr. Shin is expected to come in on a weekly basis to attend weekly meetings, he is free to carry out his research either at home or at a detached office of the Institute on the first floor in the Yonsei Engineering Research Park building. This office, where Mr. Shin shares with two other researchers, is furnished with a wheelchair and monitor that was made by the National Rehabilitation Center. This support device was created especially for Mr. Shin to assist his research, providing him a comfortable work station.
