Poet Yoon Dong-Ju was born in 1917 in Bukgando Myungdongchon. In 1938, he entered Yeonhui Technical School, which later became Yonsei University, and graduated in 1941 after which he went to Japan and entered the English literature department of Doshisha University. In 1943, he was arrested by the Japanese police and was imprisoned in Fukuoka, where he died in February 1945. Before moving to Japan, he chose 19 poems to include in a collection for charitable purposes but was unable to get the collection published. After his death, three copies written in his own handwriting were discovered and published in 1948 as a posthumous collection called "Heaven, Wind, Stars, and Poetry."
