[YONSEI NEWS] Korean as the communication medium for reaching out globally

Grand Festival held at the Korean Language Institute (KLI) The KLI's Fifth Grand Festival was held at the Centennial Hall on May 26th. Students dressed in traditional clothes paraded the campus together with Korean traditional percussion bands. The event was held in an effort to encourage foreign students learning Korean to provide opportunities for cultural exchange among students. About 1,400 people attended the event including 1,300 KLI students, KLI faculty members, and special guests. The event commenced with an opening ceremony, followed by student performances, and ended with celebratory performances. Before the opening ceremony, Korean traditional percussion bands and students wearing traditional clothing paraded from the KLI building to the Centennial Hall. The opening ceremony was proceeded by Jeon Na-young, the Head Manager of KLI. The Vice President of Yonsei University said in a congratulatory remark, "KLI will act as a communication medium as Korea stands at the center of globalization." Seo Sang Kyu, Dean of the Institute of Language Research and Education, said, "I hope this event provides an opportunity for harmony and sharing between Korea and other countries." In the second half of the event, traditional dance, singing, and instrumental performances by KLI students took place. Celebratory performances by the university's cheering squad Akaraka, the dance club Hari, the 'gukak' (Korean traditional music) ensemble Yesoul, and the Nanta team were applauded by audiences.
