1:1 mentor and mentee, Yonseians practice servant leadership For two days from April 8th to 9th, the Mentoring Leadership Camp was held for the 50 voluntary university mentors who participate in the 2011 Beautiful Companion. As a Yonsei leadership mentoring program, Beautiful Companion is co-organized by Yonsei Leadership Center and Kayahng 4 Social Welfare Office. Since 2006, Yonsei students have engaged themselves in mentoring young mentee students in impoverished districts, taking part in various activities such as reading & discussions, cultural experiences, counseling, and leader education. As a result of the program, children and young student mentees have reported positive experiences such as feeling less emotionally and cognitively detached or neglected, more motivated to study, and more advantaged in terms of culture. Meanwhile, the program offers Yonsei student mentors with a chance for self-examination and improvement, not to mention servant leadership through which they grow into leaders who implement servanthood and love. The most essential factors in successfully carrying out mentoring activities are sincerity and responsibility. The Mentoring Leadership Camp provides new mentors to share their concerns with the experienced mentors, also making resolutions for their one year mentoring program.
