The New Thought Leaders Forum has granted a special scholarship to Lee Young-su (senior, Law), a young North Korean defector whose dream is to become a lawyer and human rights activist for North Koreans. Mr. Lee intends to expand the global awareness for the North Korean refugees in a third country, also providing legal assistance to the defectors who have escaped to Korea. He has recently been admitted to the Law School of Kyungpook National University, but the tuition costs have been a trouble to him. To help Mr. Lee pursue his dream and finish his education, members of the New Thought Leaders Forum have started an educational fund for him. On February 9, the New Thought Leaders Forum gave Mr. Lee 11 million won for the tuition for his first two semesters. For the remaining two years, the co-representatives of the New Thought Leaders Forum—Kim Jeong-su (Chairman of J.S. Co.), Park Myong-jae (President of CHA University) and Professor Son Heung-kyu (College of Dentistry, Yonsei University)—have promised to grant him scholarships. The New Thought Leaders Forum, launched in September 2008, consists of around 100 alumni who share their knowledge and experience for the development of Yonsei and young talented Yonseians. As a voluntary group, the Forum also provides funds for cultural events and community services.
