The program ‘Beautiful Companion, Leadership Mentoring’, co-organized by Yonsei Leadership Center and Kayang 4 social welfare office, was awarded the Prime Minister prize in the Korean Human Awards. As one of the human network programs carried out by the Ministry of Welfare, the Korean Human Awards are presented to individuals, institutes, and organizations that actively engage in mentoring. From 2004, the vision mentoring program ‘Beautiful Companion, Leadership Mentoring’ has been implemented to promote the healthy growth and development of children and young students in impoverished districts. This program has generated 292 mentoring volunteers and 298 mentees. Positive changes have been observed in the young mentees as a result of the activities with mentors, including reading discussions, experiencing-various-culture activities, and leadership education. The program has also been an opportunity for voluntary university student mentors to practice servant leadership in their local communities. For this program, the Yonsei Leadership Center has supplied the necessary material and training for effective mentoring.
