Yoo Joo-wan, currently a senior grade student at Kyunggi High School, has been accepted into Yonsei’s School of Integrated Technology at College of Engineering. Yoo Joo-wan is famous as the developer of the Seoul Bus iPhone application program. The Seoul Bus program enables its users to check real-time information on the locations of local buses in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The application recorded nearly 10,000 downloads as soon as it was launched on December 4 in 2009. Yoo Joo-wan said “The whole procedure of developing and releasing the application has made me realize the importance of not only technology but also marketing, management, and design. At first, I received a lawsuit notification from Gyeonggi Province for using publicly open information in the application program without approval from the government.” The conflict was settled, and the program was re-launched. He added “Developing an application program takes the cooperation and adjustment of a number of people and organizations.” It was this experience that led him to the School of Integrated Technology at College of Engineering at Yonsei. This department is where he can acquire interdisciplinary knowledge based on technology engineering, business management and design. Yoo Joo-wan’s talent in developing many creative application programs and his distinguished awards, including those from the Hacking Defense Contest organized by the Korea Internet Security Agency and the Young Inventor Special Prize from the International Transport Forum held in Leipzig, made him a qualified student for the School of Integrated Technology at College of Engineering which is led by the former Vice President of Samsung Electronics Lee Ki-tae. As a student of the School of Integrated Technology, Yoo Joo-wan plans to devise a program like Facebook that changes the daily life patterns of people around the world.
