[YONSEI NEWS] Students Worldwide Learn Korean Culture at Yonsei

1,600 students from 20 countries attend International Summer School Middle & high school students from 200 domestic and foreign schools participate in the GLAD Program Students from different races and nationalities came together at Yonsei, and their zest for studies and learning Korean culture was as hot as the summer heat. The 2010 International Summer School ended its two months of diversity and competition in great success. This year the International Summer School was held on two campuses—Sinchon and International. On Sinchon campus, the conventional Yonsei International Summer School was conducted, and the Yonsei Global Leaders and Dreams (GLAD) was held on the International campus in Songdo. On July 22 the ‘Summer Fiesta with The President’ was held at the President’s residence with about 700 students and visiting professors who participated in the Summer School programs on the Sinchon and International campuses. For the Yonsei International Summer School, 1261 university students from 198 different countries came to Korea and attended the program. The number of participant students was the highest ever. To these students, diverse lectures on more than 90 subjects were offered, with extracurricular activities like field trips and excursions. From July 19 to August 13, four sessions of the GLAD program were carried out on the International campus. The participants of this program were domestic and international middle and high school students who wished to be global leaders in the future. A total of 362 students from about 200 domestic and international schools gathered at Yonsei. Among them, 51 students came from 10 foreign countries, including the United States, China, Taiwan, Germany, India, Canada, the Philippines and Ireland. All students attended diverse and inspiring lectures and took part in programs that intended to foster confidence and responsibility. All the lectures and programs were delivered in English.
