Galaxy Formation Forum, Global 5-5-10 Center of Astrophysics & Space Technology From May 31 to June 4, the Global 5-5-10 Center of Astrophysics & Space Technology in Yonsei University held a Galaxy Formation Forum in commemoration of Yonsei University’s 125th anniversary. The forum featured many eminent scholars, including Professor of Astrophysics at Oxford University, Joseph Silk; Dean of the Department of Physics at Oxford University, Roger Davies; Professor of Astronomy at the University of Padua, Alvio Renzini; and Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Yale University, Meg Urry. ‘Galaxy formation’ is one of the biggest challenges of 21st century Astronomy. The speakers further discussed latest research findings such as the super gigantic black hole and globular cluster populations. An MOU between the Department of Astronomy of Yonsei University and the Department of Physics of Oxford University was also signed on June 3. For the last five years, the two universities have undertaken various joint research projects through student and faculty exchanges.
