Next-generation Academic Information System with RFID The presentation meeting on Yonsei University’s Next-generation Academic Information system with RFID was held on June 22 at the Chang Ki Won International Conference Hall in the Yonsei-Samsung Library. The meeting was organized to celebrate and introduce the Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) system, which was carried out as part of the Next-generation Academic Information system and the U-Campus (Ubiquitous Campus) construction project. It was attended by over 200 guests in the field of library science, including Director of the Library of Keiyo University, Shunsaku Tamura and the acting deputy of the Director of the National Assembly Library, Hur Yong-ho. As a global academic information system, the Next-generation Academic Information system of the Yonsei University supplies diverse connections to the off-campus nationwide information archives and direct exchanges of academic resources with foreign universities. The system also provides an integrated management program among the three Yonsei campuses—Shinchon, Wonju, and the International. Among the libraries in Korea holding more than one million books, Yonsei University Library is to be the first to apply the 900 MHz RFID system and put RFID tags to all its books. RFID is a technology that reads information in close distance through radio waves or electrical signals. Yonsei University Library is also furnished with the most sophisticated and advanced electronic technology, including automatic checkout and return systems and book inspection devices.
