Scholarship money raised by local residents and shop owners in Sinchon area committed to supporting Yonsei was granted to Yonsei students who are in financial difficulties. Yonsei University Sinchon Region Support Group (president: Mr. Kim Dong-sung, manager of Sinchon Hyundai Department Store) held an award ceremony of scholarship on November 25 in Hyungjae Galbi restaurant. Initiated in 1995, the annual scholarship award ceremony celebrated its 15th year. With its 180 members, the support group so far supported 158 Yonsei students. The amount of scholarship money has increased this year, and 6 students received 3 million won each. The recipients are Kwon In-ran (Korean Language and Literature), Park Joseph (Theology), Suh Min-sung (Political Science and International Relations), Yang Seung-rok (Vocal Music), Han Hee-jin (Housing and Interior Design) and Lee Yoon-jung (Education) In speech congratulating the recipients, University President Kim Han-joong said, “The amount of scholarship money is greater than that of the last year when it became hard for our students to earn money for tuition” and “the support group has supported outstanding students to help them not give up their academic career. The recipients will learn from this noble act of sharing and give back more than what they received.” The president of the support group, Mr. Kim Dong-sung, delivered his comments of appreciation: “Yonsei Sinchon Region Support Group has come to its 15th year. It’s existence reflects the constant interest and passionate effort of its members. We are truly excited to think that our support contributes to Yonsei.” More than 100 members of the support group and staffs from Office of External Affairs and Development attended the award ceremony and gave warm encouragement to the scholarship recipients
