University exercised medical inspection and took preventive measures on 2,000 foreign students on June 26 to prevent the spread of Influenza A (H1N1), which has recently become a serious threat to world health. The activity was carried out in cooperation between the university, Seodaemun-Gu Health Center, and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Fever check on individuals was made on the day with help of government organizations. Yonsei was preparing to fight the spread of the influenza before the cooperation started. On June 18, the school administration had emergency meeting and started making plans at the university level. On the next day, specific plans and measures were discussed. UIC also decided to put off the schedule of the International Summer School, changing the beginning date from June 29 to July 2. There are three phases in Yonsei’s countermeasure to H1N1. Fever check is done in Phase 1. If a student is identified as a potential patient, the University reports to Seodaemun-Gu Health Center and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Quarantine is operated, and the quarantined patients are transported to Seodaemun-Gu Health Care Center in Phase 2. In the last phase, entrance to buildings are restricted, and emergency supplies are distributed. University reports the status of the quarantined patients to the central control center and receives supplies.
