[INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS] Yonsei Strength: Foreign Faculty, Rich Curriculum and Internship Programs

2009 Yonsei International Summer School Starts 2009 Yonsei International Summer School is on full swing. The program runs from July 2 to August 5. There are approximately 1,400 students in this year’s program, which is twice as many as those who attended last year’s program. A staff at Underwood International College (UIC) said that the extension in quality of the program as well as in quantity is focused on for this year’s program. There were 877 students who participated in the last year’s program, and 777 of the participants were from abroad. For this year, there are 1,200 foreign students and 200 domestic students. Students from 250 universities around the globe applied for the program, and there was a distinctive increase in students from the top universities such as Brown University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, Yale University and other Ivy League universities. More than 200 students came from the University of California system, which has traditionally been one of the greatest source of students for the program. New programs with a wide variety of curricula were established this year, and the number of faculty is also larger. The program has 87 lectures in 8 academic fields such as Korean studies, business, humanities, social science, and engineering. Some 32 international faculty, including 23 Yonsei faculty, are teaching a variety of courses. Among the faculty from abroad, 12 lecturers are from the University of California. The program also has special lecturers such as Danny Chun, the first Korean Acting Justice in New York State Supreme Court, who opened an introductory course on American Law, and Steven Chung, a professor from the Princeton University, who opened a course on Korean Cinema. Other than academic courses, Yonsei International Summer Program also provide Field Trips encouraging the students to experience Korean history and Global Internship where students can build career in renowned companies and organizations in Korea.
