The First Foreign Married Graduates Produced The university community was delighted to greet the first Yonsei international graduate married couple on 23 February. They are Martin Mcgregor from Canada and Susan Mcgregor from Germany. Martin and Susan got their master’s degree in International Trade and Finance from the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS). Martin also got master’s degree in Yonsei Global MBA program. He is currently teaching students at Chung Ang University. Susan is working for marketing department of COEX. The pair met in Mexico and married in 2004 in Germany. Martin later decided to come over to Korea as English teacher with Susan. "GSIS (Graduate School of International Studies) in Yonsei seemed to be the best choice for us. So we made our mind to study here," says Martin. The couple entered GSIS in March 2006. Questioned what is the attraction of Yonsei, they praised high-tech facilities such as Yonsei-Samsung library (central library) and good professors as well as its beautiful campus. They also complimented careful considerations of professors saying, "professors are constantly concerned with the students, busy as they are with their research." Martin complimented Yonsei Global MBA program, too. "Classes consisted of very small number of devoted students, and they are conducted under very friendly atmosphere. Every class is conducted in English. Students come to have insight in analyzing ever-changing business environment and conditions through various individual case studies," says Martin. His dissertation, which dealt with "International Investment Dispute Settlement" raised fresh attention on the topic, winning the best dissertation award. "It is about the way entrepreneurs can take when the government unnecessarily changes laws and regulations regarding corporations. The change of laws and regulations can create confusions and setbacks in corporation’s performance," he explained. The couple is satisfied with their life in Korea. They said they liked active street scene. "Korea is always energetic and lively when we walk around the streets or go to a marketplace." They speak very fluent Korean. They say that Korea almost feels like home with friends and familiar things, although they went through hard time when they first came to Korea. Still, they are discovering cultural differences which always come as pleasant surprise. "We are amazed at the activeness of Korean culture. It is a big pleasure to work with people from diverse backgrounds here in Korea."
