Faculty and Staff Camp Held in Gyeongju On February 4-6, the 42nd Faculty and Staff Camp was held in the city of Gyeongju. This year’s theme was “Globalization of the University and the Future of Yonsei,” and 450 members of the Yonsei community, including the university president, members of the board, professors, and administrative staff, participated in the event. The event began with a speech by the university president and consisted of various presentations and discussions on the future of Yonsei. Planning Division Chief Lee Tae-Young gave a presentation on “University Rankings, Yonsei’s Status, and Future Initiatives” where he analyzed international university evaluations and focused on Yonsei’s goal of ranking in the top 100. Next, Dean Ha Yeonseob of the Office of International Affairs in his presentation on the task of “Producing Global Talent and the Globalization of the University,” suggested various strategies, such as specifically targeted strategies, increasing foreign language courses, and globalizing administrative practices. On the second day, the projects of 2008 and plans for 2009 were reviewed. Speakers from other institutions were invited, including POSTECH President Baik Sunggi. On the last day, Yonsei President Kim visited POSCO and POSTECH. The other participants spent the day hiking and visiting various sites in the area.
