Authority on Game Theory, Professor Drew Fudenberg of Harvard Lectures at College of Economics On April 16, in the Daewoo Hall, Professor Drew Fudenberg stood in front of some 100 students filling the room to deliver a passionate lecture on economics. Professor Fudenberg, arriving at Yonsei as part of the University’s “Star Professor Project,” taught Game Theory, his field of specialty, for one month in April. Considered a potential Nobel Prize candidate, Professor Fudenberg moved busily across the blackboard, explaining theories on repetition and reputation, the newest area in Game Theory. “If Samsung Electronics were to participate in the game only once, they would sell low-quality products at high prices for a high profit, but if the game is repeated, their loss of reputation will cause a drastic drop in profit. The point is that repeated relationships build trust.” “The students were extremely attentive,” Professor Fudenberg shared his positive impression of Yonsei students, “even in comparison with my students at Harvard. I am happy to have this opportunity to teach in Korea.” In continuation of Yonsei’s efforts to provide instruction by top-level international scholars to students majoring in Economics, Nobel Laureate Professor Eric Maskin will visit in the Spring semester of 2009, followed by Professor Peter Schmidt of Michigan State University who will visit in the Fall semester of 2009.
