[YONSEI NEWS] U.S. Republican Party Strategists, Professors Berkowitz and Brady Lecture at Yonsei

Underwood Global Forum The Underwood International College (UIC) invited two U.S. Republican Party strategists to lecture at Yonsei on December 5 and 12. On December 5, Professor Peter Berkowitz of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, chief advisor of foreign policy for Republican Party candidate Rudolph Giuliani, lectured on “Conservatives, Foreign Policy, and Election 2008”. Professor Berkowitz majored in English Literature as Swarthmore College, and went on to receive a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Doctorate degrees in Law and Politics at Yale. He currently holds the positions of researcher at Hoover Institution at Stanford University and Professor of the George Mason University Law School. He has published numerous books including Varieties of Conservatism in American, Varieties of Progressivism in America and The Future of American Intelligence. On December 12, Professor David W. Brady of the Hoover Institution, chief advisor to the Republican candidate Mitt Romney, visited Yonsei. Professor Brady is an expert on the decision making structure of the U.S. Congress, and former vice-president of the American Political Science Association. Famous in Korea as an authority on business strategy, Professor Brady studied at the University of Iowa for his Master’s and Doctorate degrees and is currently a professor of political science at Stanford University. Professors Berkowitz and Brady also taught UIC students for two weeks on “Democracy and Virtue”. The Underwood Global Forum is a lecture series hosted by the UIC to give students a chance to meet and learn firsthand from international figures. In 2007, former Prime Minister Lee Heung-Goo, American ambassador to Korea Alexander Vershbow, singer and producer JY Park, Nobel Laureate Kurt Wüthrich, and novelist Chang-rae Lee lectured in this series.
