Nearly 40,000 pages of historical documents on the Korean War and former President Rhee Syngman will be available in Seoul Yonsei University and the Truman Presidential Museum and Library reached an agreement on June 27, signed by University President Jung Chang-young and Executive Director Michael Devine of the Truman Presidential Museum and Library. The agreement, in which the two institutions agreed to cooperate in research and education, will include the exchange of official historical documents, training personnel in the care and management of historical documents, opening a website on Korea-U.S. relations, and holding exhibits, conferences, and symposiums. The most important clause of this agreement pertains to the loan to Yonsei of documents related to the Korean War and former President Rhee Syngman, collected during the presidency of Harry S. Truman. A committee consisting of representatives from the Institute of State Governance (Director Lee Young Sun) and the Truman Presidential Museum and Library will be established to facilitate cooperation and exchange. The Truman Presidential Museum and Library, located in Independence, Missouri, was founded in 1957 to commemorate former U.S. President Harry S. Truman and preserve the historical records related to his presidency (1945-1953). A total of 15 million pages of documents (of which 6.5 million are White House files), over 30,000 books, and an incredible amount of video and audio records are held by the Library. Also, from 1962, an oral history project has been conducted to preserve historical facts that are not recorded on paper. The records about the Korean War and the presidency of former president Rhee Syngman are of special interest to scholars in Korea.
