[YONSEI NEWS] President of Mongolia Awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Political Science

The Yonsei University Graduate School awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Political Science to President Enkhbayar Nambar of Mongolia, in recognition of his efforts to further human welfare and international cooperation in the Asian area. President Enkhbayar has worked to increase international cooperation with other Asian countries and share the cultural resources of Mongolia with the world since his inauguration in 2005. As part of his efforts, he is actively supporting projects to translate Mongolian literature into other languages and to develop Mongolia’s cultural resources. President Enkhbaya’s relationship with Yonsei is special. He has shown great interest in the medical services provided in Mongolia by the Medical Center during the past century, and has expressed his gratitude with the construction of a park in Mongolia commemorating Dr. Lee Tae-joon, Yonsei alumnus and attending physician of the last emperor of Mongolia. In his acceptance speech, President Enkhbayar said, “I am happy to visit Yonsei University. The Mongolian people know that Yonsei is an internationally acclaimed university. This visit will be an opportunity to strengthen the ties between Korea and Mongolia.” Dean Kim Yu Sam of the Graduate School presented the honorary award to President Enkhbayar, in a ceremony attended by University President Jung Chang-young and officers of the University, the First Lady of Mongolia, the Mongolian Ambassador to Korea, and Mongolian singer and graduate student at Yonsei University Delgermaa Tsendjav, who sang the national anthem of Mongolia during the ceremony.
