Global Yonsei Built on 122-Year History A commemorative ceremony of the 122nd Anniversary of Yonsei University was held on May 12 in the Main Auditorium, celebrating its leadership role in the modern history of Korea. A thousand people gathered for the ceremony, including Chairman of Yonsei Corporation Bang Woo-young, former University Presidents, Alumni President Lee Byeong-moo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technology Kim Woo-sik, President Sohn Byung-doo of Sogang University, and Yonsei alumni visiting the University for their 25th and 50th reunion. Among the special guest invited to the ceremony were two very special guests: Louise M. Frank and husband Hans G. Frank. Ms. Frank is a descendent of L. H. Severance, who donated 10,000 dollars 107 years ago and made it possible for Severance Hospital to be built. University Chaplain Han In-chul presided over the ceremony, and University President Jung Chang-Young addressed the celebrants with a commemorative speech on the past and future of Yonsei, concluding that “The spirit of the founders has been passed down to us, and we continue to realize their dream of providing excellent education and service to the community. Let us all join hands in succeeding the mission of our founders to achieve Yonsei pride through global excellence” The commemorative speech was followed by an awards ceremony honoring Yonseians who contributed to the University in the areas of social service, volunteer work, medicine, and academics.
