In Memory of Yun Dong-Ju’s Love for His Country and Literary Spirit The reopening ceremony of the Yun Dong-Ju Memorial Room, which commemorates national poet Yun Tong Ju (Yonhee College), was held on May 12 in front of the Yun Tong Ju Memorial, hosted by University President Jung Chang-Young. Among the guests of honor who attended the ceremony were the poet’s eldest nephew Yun In-seok and Chairman Shochoku Tokuyama of the Board of Trustees of the Kyoto University of Art and Design, great-grandson of Yun’s maternal uncle Kim Jae-hong. The Yun Dong-Ju Memorial Room first opened on April 6, 2004, on the second floor of Pinson Hall, the most appropriate place for the Memorial Room because it was originally a dormitory where Yun slept, studied and wrote poetry during his years at Yonhee College (or as it was named in English "Chosun Christian College"). On display in the Memorial Room were photographs, books and other materials relevant to the poet. After undergoing renovation, the Memorial Room is now reopened with a more extensive collection of artifacts and testimonies on the life of the poet. Some of the major displays include the autographed manuscript of Yun’s collection of poetry, “Heaven, Wind, Stars, and Poetry” (published posthumously), a tile from the roof of the house where Yun was born, and an original copy of Yun’s school register from Yonhee College. The Yun Dong-Ju Memorial Society, which was established in 2000 by Yonsei University, is planning to continue expanding the Memorial Room. Donation of photographs, books, magazines, newspaper reports, and other artifacts related to the poet are welcome.
