Yonsei University President Jung Chang-young, Dean Yu Kang-min of the College of Science, and Professor Park Seung-han, Head of the BK21 Research Project Team were present at this event. 59 International Researchers Currently at the College of Science Currently, four research professors, 24 postdoctoral researchers, 18 graduate researchers, six undergraduate researchers, and seven enrolled undergraduate students are participating in various long-term and short-term projects at the College of Science. When asked about the research environment at Yonsei, these researchers answered that they were quite satisfied overall. The level of co-researchers, libraries, and the free Korean language program for international graduate researchers were mentioned as Yonsei’s strong points. Postdoctoral researchers pointed out, however, that they were not issued University ID cards, which are necessary to access various facilities, including the library. Dean Yu emphasized the importance of continued support for international researchers. He pointed out that in order to achieve Inbound Globalization, support in the form of visa issuing, lodging, etc. must be added to Yonsei’s competitive research infrastructure. International Top-Class Research Institution The College of Science at Yonsei is a frontier research institution. Five fields were selected for Yonsei’s Global 5-5-10 Project, and 32 billion won have been secured in various government and corporate research funds. The faculty at the College of Science published a total of 334 papers in SCI journals in 2006, including four in “Nature.” With its distinguished faculty and cutting-edge research, the College of Science is expected to accelerate Yonsei’s Inbound Globalization by attracting researchers from all around the world.
