New Method for Cancer Gene Discovery

 

Will Contribute to Cataloguing Cancer Genes in Specific Cancers and Individuals

 

 

 

An international research team that includes Professor In Suk Lee from Yonsei’s Department of Biotechnology has developed a novel method for cancer gene discovery called MUtations For Functional Impact on Network Neighbors (MUFFINN). In analyzing eighteen different types of cancer, the team demonstrated that the MUFFINN method has high sensitivity compared with gene-centric analyses of mutation data, meaning that it is more effective in both detecting and predicting cancer genes.

 

The results of the research were published June 23 in the prestigious journal Genome Biology. The title of the article is “MUFFINN: cancer gene discovery via network analysis of somatic mutation data.”
