International Yonsei Community (IYC)

-Helping International Students Integrate

The International Yonsei Community (IYC) was founded in 1995 to promote meaningful interaction between Korean and international students studying at Yonsei. Since its founding, IYC has emphasized the importance of negotiating cultural, racial, and academic differences to enhance multicultural understanding and ensure a welcoming university community.

IYC strives to remove barriers between Korean students and international students, which include those on exchange and those studying in the Korean Language Institute (KLI). It stresses the importance of treating language as a tool rather than an obstacle to understanding. Recognizing the value of friendship and intellectual exchange among all Yonsei students, IYC’s activities revolve around creating platforms for direct interaction.

IYC has three cornerstones: international students, global interaction, and friendship. Prior to the beginning of each semester, IYC offers its Pick-Up Service, which collects incoming students from the airport, the Welcome Party, and a guided tour to introduce international students to Korea. During the semester, IYC members take part in Akaraka and the Yon-Ko Sports Festival, as well as events like the International Cooking Festival, IYC Day, membership training (MT), and picnics. All of these events enable IYC members to make friends and more fully enjoy university life.

In addition, there are smaller groups within IYC, which promote friendship through sports like soccer, bowling, and billiards, food tours, and the Korea School.
